Preschool, kindergarten & 1st Grade Animal Programs

  • Homes and Habitats

In this Preschool program, we focus on observing, comparing and classifying animals and their environments. We look at what they need to live and grow in their environment. We also play sensory games that help us put some of the animals into categories. The students will get to make their very own feathery friend to take home! Standards we focus on: CD14M

  • Leaves and Lizards

In this Kindergarten program, we observe the differences between humans, plants, and animals. We also look into how to identify living and non-living things in terms of their: structure, growth, changes, movement, and basic needs! We dig through the dirt to meet some wiggly friends and the students will receive their very own superworm pet and plant! The standards we focus on: LS.K.1.1, LS.K.2

  • The Bear Necessities

In this First Grade program, we identify the basic needs of any living organism and talk about how they survive in different ecosystems. We talk about what an ecosystem is and what animals inhabit them. The students will then create their own ecosystem to take home and add a few animals to inhabit it.
The standards we focus on: LS.1.1

2nd & 3rd Grade

  • Critter Contrasting

In this Second Grade program, we compare and contrast the features of a variety of animals and identify their physical characteristics. We also dive into understanding animal life cycles and comparing how different and alike they are. After observing some model and live lifecycles, the students will get a new pet that will go through a life cycle of it’s own.
The standards we focus on: LS.2.1

  • Scales and skins

In this Third Grade program we take a look under the skin and experience the parts of an animal we usually can't see. We talk about different body systems using real organs and learn about why skin is so important for us to have. (This program includes preserved animal organs). The students will get to make and take home their very own skin friend! The standards we focus on: LS.3.1

4th & 5th Grade

  • Fantastic Fossils

In this Fourth Grade program, we will be learning how fossils are formed and looking at some very old examples of things that lived long ago! We will meet a few animals that had some very interesting ancestors and the students will get to make their very own fossils to take home with them!
The standards we focus on: LS.4.2

  • Adaptation Exploration

In this Fourth Grade program, we identify adaptations that help animals survive in their specific environments. We also look at how animals gather information about their environment through various senses and meet some friends who can show us some interesting ways they interact with their environment. The students will create and take home their own biome and create an animal that has to live in that biome ! The standards we focus on: LS.4.1

  • Beastly Biology

In this Fifth grade program, we identify and compare biological systems that help animals survive. (This program includes preserved animal organs). We will work hard to put those organs into categories and figure out which system they are involved in! After we talk about what makes us a multicellular organism; the students will make their very own unicellular organism to take home! The standards we focus on: LS.5.1

  • Reduce Decompose Consume

In this Fifth Grade program, we investigate the different producers, consumers, and decomposers that make up an ecosystem. We will meet a few animals who are consumers and decomposers, then the students will create their own ecosystem for their new pet worm to live in! The standards we focus on: 5.L.2

Non-Animal Programs Include..

-One Demonstration Experiment.
-Full 5 E lesson plan focused on a NC Science Standard.
-Two engaging experiments.
-One Take-home Experiment for each child!

Preschool & kindergarten Non-animal Programs

  • Playful Predictions

In this event, we observe the properties of a few objects, manipulate them and make predictions on what will happen! The kids will get to see an explosive chemical reaction and make a density glow stick to take home!

The standard we focus on is: Goal CD-15:

  • Wiggling Weather

In this event, we explore the world of weather and see how it changes from day to day and month to month. The children get to make lightning in the classroom, eat a real cloud, and make some cloud slime that they get to take home!

The standard we focus on is: ESS.K.1

1st & 2nd grade

  • Orbiting Odyssey

In this event, we travel to outer space to explore the difference between orbiting and rotating! We look at models that help us understand why we have day and night and identify a few things we might see in the night sky! We make our own constellations and even get to set off a water rocket that goes 350 feet in the air!

The standard we focus on is: ESS.1.1

  • Balancing Forces

In this event we explain how some forces can be used to move objects without touching them. We experiment with air, magnets and the center of gravity! The students get to walk through a magical floating balloon ring and take home a balancing bird!

The standard we focus on i: 1.P.1.2

  • Terrific Transformations

In this event, we look at the properties of a solid, a liquid, and a gas and compare them! We do a few explosive experiments to see what happens when you mix a solid and a liquid and even mix a few liquids that make a brand new substance that we get to take home!

The standard we focus on is: PS.2.1

  • In this event we explore the connection between sound and vibrations. We watch how soudnd can move objects without touching the!. After experimenting with a few instruments, we make one that we get to take home with us!

    Sensational Sounds

In this event we explore the connection between sound and vibrations! We perform a few experiments that help us see how sound can sometimes move objects without touching them. After our experiments we make our own instrument to take home!

The standard we focus on is: PS.2.2

3rd & 4th grade

  • Property Pals

In this event, we identify solids, liquids and gasses and we talk about the difference in their molecules and how they take up space! We do a few experiments that show us ways that matter can change and even get to make a sweet treat while we do it!

The standard we focus on is: PS.3.1

  • Mountain Mania

In this event, we take a trek through different land structures and see how they are made! We do experiments to see what erosion can do over time and what happens when one tectonic plate goes under another. Then we make a volcanic substance that we get to take home!

The standard we focus on is :ESS.3.2

  • Evaluating Electricity

In this event, we experiment with the concept that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and electric currents. We provide a few interactive models to prove that theory and then we explore the world of circuits! Even creating one out of our own bodies. Finally we make some very attractive slime to take home.

The standard we focus on is: PS.4.2

  • Excavation Extravaganza

In this event, we explore the caves to find rocks and break them open in the classroom to find the minerals inside! We talk about the different types of rocks and how the rock types form. Once we find the minerals inside the rocks, we use a rock testing kit to observe their properties! We test each mineral for its hardness, color, luster, cleavage and streak. Once we have tested all the minerals, we experiment to see how obsidian is formed. The children get to keep the minerals they found!

The standard we focus on is: ESS.4.2

5th grade

  • Motion Maker

In this event, we observe different forces and motions to explain how factors such as gravity, friction, and change in mass affect the motion of objects. We defy gravity, set of explosions and create a car that runs on air! The students get to keep the car they make and even race them in the classroom!

The standard we focus on is:PS.5.2.1

  • Influencing Weather

In this event, we define what the hydrosphere, atmosphere, geosphere and biosphere are and how they influence weather patterns. We create some exciting weather in the classroom and explore the way the ocean interacts with weather. After our interactive demonstrations, the students make their own weather instrument to take home!

The standard we focus on is: ESS.5.1.2
